High-Resolution Audio

Why You Should Listen To Your Music In Hi-Res Audio®

hra

When it comes to music, Hi-Res Audio® is harder to find. The main way most of us listen is via streaming on portable devices, such as the iPod and smartphones. Although very convenient, this trend has actually taken us backward in terms of what we settle for as a good music listening experience.

In the last few years, "High-Resolution Audio" (or "Hi-Res audio") has slowly but surely hit the mainstream, thanks to the release of more products, streaming services and even smartphones supporting the Hi-Res standards.

What we mean by that is the file formats used by streaming services are of lower quality. When compared to the CD format, MP3 files and streamed music from iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, (and others) simply contain fewer data to make the music. In order to fit the music into a format that can be easily streamed, and provide listeners the ability to store lots of songs on a portable music player or smartphone, as much as 80 percent of the information present in the recording of the original performance may be deleted.

Enter Hi-Res Audio

As a result of the proliferation of poor-quality music listening, a strategy has been implemented to bring back high-quality two-channel audio by extending the capabilities of downloadable music so that it matches, or surpasses, CD quality.

Just as High-Definition revolutionized movie watching, you can now enjoy a defining listening experience with High-Resolution Audio®. Using a higher sampling rate than in CDs for the encoding and playback of music, it brings your favorite tracks to life in a new way through pin sharp clarity and nuances.

Why It Matters / The Benefits

Just like HD and 4K revolutionized the way we watch movies, High-Resolution Audio® (Hi-Res Audio) does the same for the way we listen to music.

Hi-Res Audio delivers far more detail, clarity, depth, and realism than CDs, MP3s, or streaming services. While CDs are limited to 44.1kHz / 16-bit, Hi-Res Audio is typically delivered in 24-bit / 96kHz or even 24-bit / 192kHz, meaning dramatically more musical information is preserved.

The result?

Richer sound

Deeper bass

Clearer vocals

More space, air, and realism

You hear things you’ve never heard before — even in songs you’ve known for years

Why MP3 & Streaming Fall Short

MP3s and most streaming services use lossy compression, which means huge amounts of musical data are thrown away to save space and bandwidth. In some cases, up to 80% of the original sound information is removed.

That’s why streaming music often sounds:

  • Flat
  • Lifeless
  • Harsh
  • Compressed
  • Lacking depth and realism

Convenient? Yes.
High quality? No.

Why Hi-Res Audio® Sounds So Much Better

Hi-Res Audio® uses lossless formats like FLAC, ALAC, AIFF, WAV, and DSD, which preserve the full quality of the original studio master.

A quick comparison:

  • MP3: ~320 kbps
  • CD: 1,411 kbps
  • Hi-Res Audio: Up to 9,216 kbps

That means Hi-Res Audio can deliver up to 6–7 times more musical detail than a CD and nearly 30 times more than an MP3.

What Does It Sound Like?

Hi-Res Audio® makes it feel like:

  • You’re in the studio with the artist
  • You hear more texture, space, and emotion
  • Instruments sound more real
  • Vocals sound more present
  • The music breathes instead of being squashed and flattened

Many albums in Hi-Res are also mastered more carefully and with greater dynamic range, making the improvement even more dramatic.

The Most Popular Hi-Res Formats

  • FLAC (Most popular, best balance of quality and size)
  • ALAC (Apple’s lossless format)
  • WAV / AIFF (Uncompressed, biggest files, purest copies)
  • DSD (Ultra-high-end studio format

The Bottom Line

If you love music...
If you care about sound quality...
If you want to hear recordings the way the artists and engineers intended...

High-Resolution Audio® is the biggest upgrade you can make.

Once you hear it, you won’t want to go back.

NOW! For the Ultimate Sound Quality:

When you Combine High-Resolution Audio® with QMastering™ Technology...

You Get This:

The DMS StudioMasters™ Difference:

High-Resolution Audio® Combined with QMastering™ Technology

Just like HD and 4K transformed the way we watch movies, High-Resolution Audio® transforms the way you experience music.

But at DMS StudioMasters™, we don’t stop at Hi-Res.

We take it much further with our exclusive QMastering™ process, creating what we proudly call:

   QMastered™ Audio

This is not just remastered.
This is rebuilt, refined, enhanced, and elevated from the original studio masters.

   What Is Hi-Res Audio?

High-Resolution Audio® typically uses:

96kHz/24bit or 192kHz/24bit

That means:

  • More detail
  • More dynamic range
  • More realism
  • More space and depth
  • More of the original performance preserved

But here’s the secret most companies won’t tell you:

Hi-Res format alone doesn’t guarantee great sound.

If the original mastering is poor, Hi-Res just gives you a higher-resolution version of bad sound.

That’s where QMastering™ changes everything.

    What Is QMastering™?

QMastering™ is DMS StudioMasters exclusive multi-stage, multi-process, state-of-the-art mastering system designed to extract the absolute maximum quality possible from the original studio master.

Our process:

  1. We start with the original studio master
  2. We run it through our proprietary QMastering™ system
  3. The system intelligently refines:
    o EQ
    o Dynamics
    o Clarity
    o Depth
    o Separation
    o Headroom
  4. We then convert the master to true Hi-Res [192kHz/24-bit] FLAC Audio
  5. Then we QMaster™ it again in Hi-Res, extracting even more detail and realism
  6. Finally, our professional mastering engineers with over 40 years combined experience review and fine-tune the result

Only with our engineers final approval does it earn the title:

QMastered™

What Does QMastered™ Sound Like?

People describe it as:

  • “Like hearing the studio master”
  • “More open and alive”
  • “Deeper bass”
  • “Clearer vocals”
  • “More space around instruments”
  • “More emotional impact”
  • “Like the music finally breathes”

You’ll hear:

  1. Details you’ve never noticed before
  2. More realistic instruments
  3. More depth and dimension
  4. More power without harshness

Even albums you’ve heard for 30 years will sound new again.

The Data Advantage

  • MP3: ~320 kbps
  • CD: 1,411 kbps
  • QMastered™ Hi-Res: Up to 9,216 kbps

It’s better mastered.

Why QMastered™ Beats Ordinary Hi-Res
